Kessa Seale

Kessa Seale a graphic artist by profession has been a self-taught Mosaic Artist since 2006. In retrospect, it was really a monumental step when Kessa & her business partner, now her husband, began to work along side her father, the owner of a concrete product business. They made pool-art which beautifully complimented his concrete elements for client’s swimming pools.

Providing this service to his business fostered her growing interest in mosaics. She offered mosaic designs to general contractors and homeowners. These mosaics are customized, underwater murals made of glass tiles, which depict fishes, dolphins, turtles and flowers. Though nature themes are an obvious choice for pools, Kessa is quite capable of creating any design required. Her mosaics can also be installed in the kitchen, on tables, outdoor walls, shower wall and floors, lobbies in offices, schools, churches and malls.

Her goal is to produce easy-to-install and ready-to-purchase mosaics off the shelf, in myriad designs. In her drive to have more purpose with her studio, she intends for it to become a fully operational factory, which would provide employment in the art milieu. There, artists would hone their skills to produce beautiful artwork daily. Providing employment is an important part of her vision and encouraging customers to buy-local!

In her paintings she includes 2D and 3D elements to add depth to her work often with the addition of seashells, copper and torn paper. “I am always collecting tiles, stones and looking for elements that I can later incorporate into my art. I will see a motif or a rock and get idea and I cant relax until I find a way to use it in my work. “

Over the years she has displayed her work in many craft-markets, and has also exhibited at joint art exhibits other local art galleries. Currently she is a member of Women In Art Organization of T&T and participates in their annual exhibitions. Kessa has had her first solo-exhibition in January 2013, which featured her mosaics as well as paintings.

Kessa expects that in the near future she will have the opportunity to design mosaic murals in commercial buildings and landmark locations in various communities. She wants to demonstrate the durability of this tile work, and its possibilities in its various applications. She continues to expose herself to current changes in technology and insists on pushing the raw material of her profession beyond its known potential.

On June 9^th 2013 she began to conduct a 3 day Mosaic Art. In this class students learnt tile cutting techniques and essential skills in choosing tiles, grouting and finishing mosaic artwork. These classes will continue to be offered periodically since Kessa is happy to share what she has learnt in her years of experience.
